Equifax data breach is potentially the most threatening in U.S. history

In September, news broke regarding a massive data breach at Equifax, one of the top three credit-monitoring bureaus in the nation. The company estimates as many as 143 million Americans’ personal information could now be in the hands of hackers, including social security numbers, birth dates, and in some cases, even drivers’ license numbers.

To help alleviate fears, both Equifax and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are encouraging people to visit to determine if Equifax believes that one’s information could have been compromised. If you discover that you are included, Equifax is offering free identity-theft insurance and third-party credit-file monitoring, among other services.

In addition, the FTC offers numerous identify theft recommendations and best practice tactics at

“At Alesco, we have strict identity verification policies and procedures in place for both the account setup process and processing money movement requests,” said Jeff Bradley, Alesco’s Vice President of Operations & Compliance. “We prefer to be overly cautious and, therefore, have extra verification steps in place for third-party transfers and address changes. While these actions take more time, they also increase the level of protection for our clients.”

Alesco becomes presenting sponsor for Division-1 basketball game — Roc City Hoops Classic

The annual Division-1 men’s basketball game at Rochester’s Blue Cross Arena has a new presenting sponsor — and a new name.

The “Alesco Advisors Roc City Hoops Classic” will take place between St. Bonaventure and the University of Vermont on Saturday, Dec. 16.

This year’s game feature two successful programs. St. Bonaventure is returning four starters from last year’s 20-win team. Vermont won the 2017 American East conference with a 29-6 record in 2016, earning them a berth in the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to Purdue in the first round.

Alesco is proud to partner with Blue Cross Arena to bring big-time, Division-1 college basketball to downtown Rochester. We are headquartered in a great sports town, and our community deserves to have quality athletic events like this to embrace.
